Steve Hackett rose to international fame as the lead guitarist of Genesis, playing a key role in shaping the band’s pioneering progressive rock sound between 1971 and 1977. His inventive use of tapping, sweep picking and sustain gave Genesis classics like Foxtrot (1972), Selling England by the Pound (1973) and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974) their distinctive character, cementing his reputation as one of prog rock’s most innovative players. In recognition of this groundbreaking work, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis.
Following his departure from the band, Hackett embarked on a hugely successful solo career, exploring everything from classical guitar to blues and world music across more than 25 studio albums. He has continued to honour his Genesis legacy with his celebrated Genesis Revisited tours, while also pushing forward with new material that demonstrates his boundless creativity. Whether on stage or in the studio, Steve Hackett remains a towering figure in progressive music, inspiring generations of guitarists with his technical brilliance and adventurous spirit.
