Primal drone-folk ritual, where sound becomes ceremony and music becomes myth.
If you'd like to be the first to know when new events are announced, you can follow Smote below.
Smote is a Newcastle-upon-Tyne–based avant-drone project originally begun by multi-instrumentalist Daniel Foggin. What started as a solitary venture soon expanded into a full-band ensemble, blending creaking strings, funeral-style drums, mournful winds, synth drones and bleak guitar to craft music that lives between ritual, psych-folk and cosmic dread. Over a string of albums since 2020, Smote have carved out a singular niche — where folk roots, experimental psychedelia and immersive drone collide in a way that feels ancient, raw and utterly otherworldly.
Their 2024 double-album A Grand Stream marks a bold statement — described as a “psychic voyage into the ether,” its drone-and-repetition-fuelled incantations summon spectral atmospheres and emotional weight. Live, Smote are a force: performance becomes ritual, sound becomes ceremony — an enveloping wall of noise and mood that challenges traditional concert expectations. For listeners drawn to the mysterious, immersive and uncompromisingly heavy, Smote remain a hauntingly beautiful immersive act, fearless in their pursuit of sonic transcendence.
