Sleeper are a British indie rock band formed in London in 1993, known for their catchy melodies, sharp lyrics, and a refreshing take on the Britpop movement. Led by singer and guitarist Louise Wener, the band quickly rose to prominence with their debut album Smart (1995), which produced hits like "Inbetweener" and "Sale of the Century." Their energetic sound, blending jangle pop and alternative rock, became a defining feature of the 90s UK indie scene.
Following the success of Smart, Sleeper released The It Girl (1996), which included chart-topping singles like "What Do I Do Now?" and "Nice Guy Eddie." With Wener's witty and often self-deprecating lyrics, Sleeper's music resonated with a generation, capturing the spirit of the time. After a hiatus in the early 2000s, the band reunited in 2017 and released The Modern Age (2019), proving their enduring appeal. With their infectious energy and relatable songwriting, Sleeper remain one of the standout bands from the Britpop era.
