About Rymden

Rymden are a Scandinavian jazz trio that bring together three towering figures of European jazz: Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft, Swedish bassist Dan Berglund and Swedish drummer Magnus Öström. The band grew from Wesseltoft’s vision of an expressive, piano-centred trio and the long creative history he shares with Berglund and Öström — both of whom were key members of the influential e.s.t. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio). Rymden’s music blends melancholic and atmospheric writing with dramatic rhythms and virtuosic interplay, pulling in influences from modern jazz, classical forms and even rock, creating expansive soundscapes that feel both fresh and deeply rooted in jazz tradition. Their acclaimed albums include Reflections & Odysseys (2019), Space Sailors (2020) and Rymden + KORK (2023), each showcasing their dynamic range and cinematic breadth.

The trio’s live performances have taken them to major jazz festivals and concert halls across Europe, earning them recognition for their immersive and exploratory sets that can move from introspective moods to exhilarating peaks. With every tour and release, Rymden continue to expand the possibilities of contemporary jazz, building bridges between tradition and innovation.
