About RuMac

You might have spotted Ruairidh Maclean, better known as RuMac, reaching the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent or making a cameo in Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later, but this Ullapool accordionist is at his best in front of a live crowd. He grew up on traditional Scottish music and Gaelic songs, then got bored of playing it straight and started punking up metal classics on the accordion instead. The result is a gloriously unhinged mix of Highland heritage, heavy riffs and the odd disco anthem.

That anything-goes approach has taken him a long way from home. RuMac has headlined his own Celtic Connections show in Glasgow, brought his chaos to Download's District X and played both Cambridge Folk Festival and Boardmasters, as well as supporting Peat & Diesel. Armed with little more than an accordion and a wonderfully odd setlist, he can go from a Gaelic song to a thrashed-out Metallica cover to a Backstreet Boys singalong in a matter of minutes. Expect humour, heart and plenty of noise. You never quite know what's coming next at a RuMac gig.
