Roni Size is one of the leading lights of jungle and drum and bass. Raised in Bristol, he grew up around the sound-system culture and blues parties of St Pauls before turning to production. In 1993 he co-founded Full Cycle Records with Krust, DJ Die and Suv, and the label quickly became a cornerstone of the city's scene, with its releases treasured by DJs and collectors.
Size founded and fronts Roni Size & Reprazent, a collective that mixes rolling breakbeats with jazz, soul, funk and live instrumentation. Their debut album New Forms (1997), home to the club anthem "Brown Paper Bag", won the Mercury Prize and brought drum and bass to a whole new audience. He has also worked on projects such as Breakbeat Era's Ultra-Obscene (1999) and built a strong solo catalogue. That includes Touching Down (2002), the soul-flavoured Return to V (2004) with guests including Beverley Knight, and the dancefloor-focused Take Kontrol (2014). Whether he's behind the decks or on stage, Roni Size remains closely tied to Bristol's pioneering place in UK dance music.
