If you'd like to be the first to know when new events are announced, you can follow Pictish Trail below.
Pictish Trail is the adventurous musical moniker of Scottish songwriter Johnny Lynch, an Edinburgh-born artist known for his distinctive blend of indie folk, alt-pop and shimmering electronica. First adopting the name in 2002, Lynch began crafting lo-fi, intimate recordings from his home studio, releasing his debut The Pictish Trail in 2003 on his much-loved DIY label Fence Records. Since then, he has steadily carved out a cult following through his genre-blurring sound, warm vocals and imaginative, often whimsical approach to songwriting. His music moves effortlessly between tender acoustic moments and expansive, electronic-driven soundscapes, creating a catalogue that feels personal, playful and quietly experimental.
Across a series of acclaimed releases, Lynch has continued to push his sonic boundaries, culminating in his 2022 album Island Family — a vibrant, exploratory record recorded on the Hebridean Isle of Eigg, where Lynch now lives and runs his label Lost Map Records. Island Family channels themes of community, isolation and belonging through a colourful mix of synth-pop, folk textures and inventive production. On stage, Pictish Trail is a wonderfully charismatic presence, delivering shows filled with warmth, humour and immersive musicianship. With his open-hearted creativity and unmistakable sound, he remains one of Scotland’s most intriguing and beloved modern songwriters.
