About Peter Capaldi

Long before he became known as Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It and the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi was making music in Glasgow’s post-punk and new wave scene. After decades focused on an acclaimed acting career, he returned to songwriting with his debut album St. Christopher (2021), reconnecting with the musical influences that first inspired him.

Capaldi’s second album, Sweet Illusions (2025), expanded on that sound with shimmering synths, fuzzy guitars and reflective songwriting shaped by the spirit of classic art rock and new wave. Produced by Dr Robert of The Blow Monkeys, the record includes tracks such as “Bin Night”, “Is It Today” and the title track “Sweet Illusions”. His live performances have quickly earned a reputation for their warmth, wit and distinctive atmosphere, bringing together longtime fans and newcomers alike. Blending cinematic storytelling with rich, melodic songwriting, Capaldi’s music offers a fascinating new chapter from one of Scotland’s most recognisable creative voices.
