Moses Sumney

Refusing to bow before the rigid formats of genre or the limitations of expectation; the music of Moses Sumney deftly dances through styles, tapping into various influences without ever being constrained by the trappings of a particular sound. Drawing on everything from neo soul to ambient rock and making use of chilly synthesizers and warm welsh harps, Sumney creates a musical sphere that he alone inhabits.

Sumney has managed to captivate his audiences through his compelling performances prompting a word of mouth campaign which has been supported by the self-release of his debut EP ‘Mid-City Island’ on cassette which led to second EP ‘Lamentations’ being picked up by independent label Vinyl Me, Please.

This year has seen the release of debut album ‘Aromanticism’. Released through the ultra-cool label Jagjaguwar, the record has swept through blogs and critic’s choices and has seen the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne add him to her vital list of recommendations.

It features the brand new single ‘Lonely World’. An odd juxtaposition of the soothing and sinister, the song embraces layers of electronica which somehow has an earthly natural quality which works well with the splatterings of analogue Spanish guitar. This merging of contrasts is quite fitting for a song which explores existential despair and how the feeling of being alone and separate in some way offers a unique and intimate relationship like no other; “And the void speaks to you in ways nobody speaks to you”.

Eager to show off his new material, catch him when he takes over Islington Assembly Hall in London for a spectacular headline show taking place on Tuesday 31st of October. Given that his name is on everybody’s lips we highly recommend you book now before the show sells out!

Peach Pit

Riding a wave of excitement started through intense campaigning on the internet, summertime blues band Peach Pit have been quick to grab international attention. Their high-quality videos have gone viral and led to huge support for the Bandcamp page.

Peach Pit are Chris Vanderkooy (guitar), Peter Wilton (bass), Mikey Pascuzzi (drums) and Neil Smith (guitar and vocals).

Describing themselves as “Chewed Bubblegum Pop”, the high school friends from Vancouver tap into the torn feelings of young love and teenage angst as they explore the giddy highs and embarrassing lows, summer thrills and growing pains through surf guitars and rolling infectious riffs.

Last year saw the release of ‘Sweet FA’. Despite its apparent mellow feel, their essential debut EP was disarmingly packed full of emotion. The release built on the support founded by their online campaigning and has created a strong following worldwide.

With their debut album ‘Being So Normal’ on the near horizon, the boys are currently on the road playing to crowds around the US and Canada before heading to the UK giving you a chance to get in on the action.  ‘Being So Normal’ will be released through Kingfisher Bluez.
