Mothica is the musical moniker of McKenzie Ellis, a singer, songwriter and producer known for her dark, emotionally charged alt-pop sound. Drawing from personal struggles with mental health and addiction, her music blends brooding electronic production with raw, confessional lyrics. Her debut album, Blue Hour (2020), was a breakthrough moment, featuring tracks like “Vices” that resonated with fans for their candid storytelling. She followed up with Nocturnal (2022), which included the anthemic “Sensitive” and further cemented her reputation for crafting deeply personal yet universally relatable songs.
Mothica has built a dedicated following through her powerful live performances, having toured alongside the likes of PVRIS and Coheed and Cambria. In the UK, she has brought her haunting yet uplifting sound to festival stages, including Download Festival and Slam Dunk, where her high-energy sets have left a lasting impression.
