Modern Woman Tickets

Full on energy

I became aware of Modern Woman via a pre - release review of Johnny's Dreamworld in Record Collector Magazine. Interest piqued, I checked them out online and really loved the sounds I heard. Modern Woman are in a crop of very impressive, young and vital gigging bands like Plantoid and Lime Garden. Like the aforementioned bands, Modern Woman have a very impressive front woman in the very capable and talented Sophie Harris. That tonights Leeds show was their first gig outside of London didn't seem to phase Sophie or her fellow musicians. During the performance I was reminded of Patti Smith, PJ Harvey and at other points Kate Bush and err... Peter Hamill. That isn't to say that Sophie is copying of any of the above. No, those are merely my personal reference points, she is after all a quite unique talent. The rest of the band were tight multi- instrumentalists swapping instruments during proceedings, a sax playing bassist, a keyboard player who supplied effects laden viola and so on. Modern Woman continue a string of consistently good gigs for me, long may they continue and I hope to see them again soon. For now I shall submerge myself in Johnny's Dreamworld until they pass this way again to perform on a stage near me. I'd recommend anyone reading this review to do the same, check them out online or visit their Bandcamp page. Extra points for the ad hoc mosh pit that developed just in front of me! Thank you Modern Woman and Hyde Park Book Club for a fantastic live experience!
