Cardiff psych-inflected rock quintet whose lo-fi tapes and compelling UK live shows have seen them grow into one of the most intriguing rising voices in the indie scene.
MIDDING are a Cardiff-based indie and psych-tinged rock five-piece whose lo-fi, tape-driven sound blends DIY experimentation with hazy, melodic hooks. Born out of singer-guitarist Joe Woodward’s kitchen recordings on a four-track, the band expanded with Elliot Roberts (bass), Cam Wheeler (keys), Eli Allison (second guitar) and Nia Abraham (drums) to form a fuller live unit that channels gritty, tape-saturated textures and raw energy. Their debut EP Nowhere Near Today (released 07 February 2025) was recorded partly at home and partly in a creative studio space in Cardiff, capturing expansive tremolo guitars, bracing vocals and rhythmic tremors that hint at psych, noise-rock and post-punk influences. Standout tracks such as “Clem’s Crime” and “Synth Love” showcase a band unafraid to carve out a distinctive sonic identity with analogue warmth and emotional grit.
MIDDING have taken their compelling live show across the UK, from Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff to Rough Trade East in London and The Glad Cafe in Glasgow, alongside other dates in Leeds, Coventry and Manchester. They have also continued to evolve their sound with the .44 EP (released 06 February 2026), a fresh collection that builds on their tape-based approach with dynamic rhythms and darkly evocative themes.
