About Matt Embree

Matt Embree has built his career on restless, genre-hopping music. He's best known as the frontman, guitarist and songwriter of Southern California's RX Bandits, who started out in the ska scene of the mid-1990s and grew into something much harder to pin down, mixing progressive rock, psychedelia and reggae. Embree also produced the band's album The Ocean and the Sun (2008). UK fans may know RX Bandits from their sets at Reading and Leeds and Slam Dunk, their own headline tours, or their co-headline run with Circa Survive.

Away from the Bandits, Embree plays guitar in The Sound of Animals Fighting, where he goes by "The Walrus", and he has toured as part of Dispatch. He has also worked with projects including Pebaluna, Biceratops and Seekret Socyetee. His first solo record was Waxwane (2008), released under the name Love You Moon, and he wrote, produced and played almost everything on it himself. Orion (2025), led by the single "Summer House Savior", goes further into hazy psych, prog and dub grooves, and it sounds like an artist who is still following his curiosity wherever it leads.
