Mason Hill are a Scottish hard rock band from Glasgow, founded in 2015 by school friends Scott Taylor (vocals) and James Bird (lead guitar), later joined by Craig McFetridge (drums), Matthew Ward (bass) and Marc Montgomery (guitar). Rising from grassroots beginnings—Matt even paused his degree and Taylor gave up Olympic swimming dreams—the band built their following through relentless live shows, supporting acts like Airbourne and Gun, and appearances at festivals including Download, WinterStorm and the Boardie Takeover Stage.
Their debut album, Against The Wall (2021), made a seismic impact: it reached No 19 in the UK Albums Chart and topped the UK Rock & Metal Chart—the first rock debut to land in the Top 20 since Greta Van Fleet (2018) and the first from a UK act since Royal Blood and Lonely The Brave (2014). Known for their high-octane live performances, the band continues to captivate fans across the UK and Europe, even as they begin a new chapter following Scott Taylor’s departure in 2023 on health grounds.
