Grumpy is the New York-based project of songwriter Heaven Schmitt, whose offbeat approach to indie-pop has quickly earned attention across the DIY music world. Mixing sugary melodies with sharp emotional honesty, Grumpy’s music balances humour, heartbreak and theatrical weirdness in equal measure. Their EPs Wolfed and Piebald introduced a sound that folds together fuzz-pop, glitchy electronics and slacker-rock charm, earning praise from outlets including The FADER, Stereogum, Paste, NPR and The New York Times.
Alongside their own releases, Schmitt has built a reputation as a versatile collaborator, working with artists including Sidney Gish, Claire Rousay and Precious Human. Their connection to the wider indie scene has helped Grumpy become one of the most distinctive emerging projects around, with songs that feel playful on the surface while digging into darker, more vulnerable themes underneath. Whether leaning into warped pop hooks or stripped-back confessionals, Grumpy brings a warm, unpredictable energy that stands out both on record and live.
