modern-classical storyteller whose lyrical piano compositions build bridges between tradition, emotion and the shared act of musical creation.
Eric Christian is a Brooklyn-based pianist and composer who seamlessly blends classical tradition with contemporary storytelling in his music. Born Eric Christian von Fricken in Halfmoon, New York (1991), he began piano studies at the age of four. His family heritage traces back to Ernestine von Fricken, once engaged to Robert Schumann, and this lineage informs his deep respect for musical history. After studying film scoring at Berklee College of Music, he travelled extensively, spending time in Paris — home to composers like Frédéric Chopin and Claude Debussy — and drawing inspiration from the interplay of place, tradition and emotional narrative.
Christian’s work places melody and emotional resonance at its core, with a strong emphasis on notation, composition and the enduring value of the written score. He has sold over 100,000 sheet-music scores across more than 200 countries, demonstrating his commitment to music that can be shared and performed rather than simply consumed. At its heart, his music is built on the belief that “music is meant to be shared, not shown”. Whether through solo piano recordings, sheet-music collections or his book of aphorisms A Symphony of Thought, Christian invites listeners into a rich, contemplative world of sound.
