Elba Ramalho is a celebrated Brazilian singer, songwriter, actress, and multi-instrumentalist, widely recognised as one of the leading voices of Northeastern Brazilian music.
She rose to national prominence in the 1970s and became known for blending traditional Brazilian rhythms such as forró, baião, and xote with contemporary popular music. Often referred to as the “Queen of Forró,” Ramalho has released dozens of albums, sold millions of records, and earned numerous awards throughout her career, including Latin Grammy recognition. Her powerful voice, vibrant stage presence, and dedication to preserving Brazil’s musical heritage have made her one of the country’s most influential and enduring artists. She has also collaborated with prominent musicians including Alceu Valença and her cousin Zé Ramalho, helping to bring the culture and sounds of Brazil’s Northeast to audiences around the world.
