Mercury Prize-nominated art rockers Django Django mix synths, guitars, rich harmonies and irresistible rhythms into a sound made for dancing.
Django Django met as students at Edinburgh College of Art before forming in London in 2009. The four-piece is made up of drummer and producer David Maclean, singer and guitarist Vincent Neff, bassist Jimmy Dixon and synth player Tommy Grace. Their debut album Django Django (2012) went silver and earned a Mercury Prize nomination, and it showed off a sound all their own: playful percussion, spacey electronics and surf-tinged guitars stitched together with a real love of the dancefloor.
They haven't stood still since. Born Under Saturn (2015) built on that early promise, and Marble Skies (2018) featured Self Esteem on the single "Surface to Air". Glowing in the Dark (2021) brought in Charlotte Gainsbourg for the breezy "Waking Up". Then came Off Planet (2023), an ambitious 21-track space-age adventure released in four parts, with guests including Jack Peñate, Stealing Sheep and Toya Delazy. Through every twist and turn, their curiosity and knack for a groove have stayed the same, which makes Django Django one of British indie's most inventive and fun-loving bands.
