English musician and creative polymath best known as the drummer of Blur, whose varied career spans music, animation, law and politics.
Dave Rowntree is an English musician, most widely recognised as the drummer for the seminal Britpop and alternative rock band Blur, a group he joined in 1988 alongside Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon and Alex James. With Blur, Rowntree helped define a generation of British music, contributing to the band’s energetic, melodic sound that powered albums such as Parklife and The Great Escape and cemented their place as one of the most influential UK rock acts of the nineties and beyond.
Beyond his role in Blur, Rowntree’s career has been impressively multifaceted: he is a qualified solicitor, an animator and composer for film and television, a DJ and even a licensed pilot. He has also been active in British politics, serving on Norfolk County Council for the Labour Party and standing as a parliamentary candidate.
