Black Country, New Road is a boundary-pushing British band known for their eclectic fusion of post-punk, experimental rock, jazz, and classical influences. Emerging from the same fertile South London scene as contemporaries like Black Midi, the group quickly gained attention for their intricate compositions and deeply expressive performances. Their debut album, For the First Time (2021), was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning a Mercury Prize nomination and showcasing their unpredictable song structures, intense dynamics, and literary lyricism.
Following up with Ants From Up There (2022), the band refined their sound, incorporating more orchestral and melodic elements while maintaining their avant-garde spirit. Shortly after the album’s release, original vocalist Isaac Wood departed, leading Black Country, New Road to reimagine themselves as a collaborative ensemble. Their subsequent live performances have introduced entirely new material, reinforcing their reputation as one of the most innovative and evolving bands in contemporary music.
