About BIIRD

Founded by seven-time All-Ireland champion harp and banjo player Lisa Canny, BIIRD brought together some of Ireland’s finest female instrumentalists, singers, and dancers to form a collective that both honours Irish tradition and presents it through a modern, empowered lens. The group made a spectacular debut in March 2024 at Trafalgar Square in London, performing to a crowd of around 10,000 and immediately creating waves for their dynamic presence and inclusive vision.

Central to BIIRD’s mission is changing narratives around gender in Irish traditional music—offering a new image and representation for women in the scene, both on instrument and stage. Their arrangements stay rooted in the tradition but are presented with a fresh attitude: striking visuals, high-energy performances and a palpable sense of sisterhood drive their appeal. With major headline shows, festival bookings and a growing global following, BIIRD are poised to become a major force in both Irish trad and beyond.
