Additional information

Axel Flóvent is an Icelandic indie-folk artist from the northern town of Húsavík, where he recently returned after years in Reykjavík and time spent living abroad. Rooted in the wide-open landscapes of his home country, Axel’s music blends melancholic indie folk, Nordic atmospheres, and subtle traces of indie rock, ambient, and electronic music. His sound is often likened to a gentle meeting point between Bon Iver, Adrianne Lenker, and Bombay Bicycle Club, yet unmistakably his own.

Axel’s work centers on introspection, emotional clarity, and therapeutic self-inquiry. His writing often begins with a guitar or piano and improvised lyrics -"nonsense until it makes sense" - searching for the emotional truth inside each phrase. He prioritizes how a line feels over what it literally means, often chasing thoughts or fragments he doesn’t fully understand, trusting the emotional resonance.

Across five EPs, Forest Fires (2015), Quiet Eyes (2017), Youthful Hearts (2018), Tourist (2020), Coexist (2022) - and two albums - You Stay by the Sea (2021) and Away From This Dream (2024) - Axel has refined a sound defined by warmth, vulnerability, and quiet depth. His debut single "Forest Fires" has accumulated over 90 million streams, pulling listeners from around the world into the creative world he’s building.

He has toured extensively throughout Europe and North America, with headline runs and support slots for artists such as Ásgeir, Mumford & Sons (Iceland Airwaves, 2017), The Paper Kites (EU & UK, 2019), and Radical Face (North America, 2020).

Axel has collaborated with acclaimed producers including Ian Grimble (Bear’s Den, Daughter, The 1975) and MyRiot (London Grammar, Aurora). His upcoming EP, Fleeing the Shore, marks his first fully self-produced body of work— mixed by Philip Weinrobe (Billie Marten, Adrianne Lenker, Florist), who helped bring Axel’s most intimate sonic world to life.

With new music on the horizon - including the first single "Nowhere" (December 19th 2025) and upcoming one “In The Grass” (January 30th 2026), and the EP set for April 24th 2026 - Axel continues writing songs that prompt audiences to turn their thoughts inward. A quiet mission drives his art: to help people feel hopeful, to reconnect with themselves, to navigate doubt, and to find beauty in the places where things feel out of place.

With Fleeing the Shore, Axel turns even further inward - recording alone in his home in Húsavík with a sense of simplicity. The EP traces the quiet currents of change, self-isolation, and solitude, capturing the feeling of returning to a “new-old” place and letting it reshape him. By developing the songs in the same room where they were written, he leans into a more unvarnished intimacy - closer to the core, a little more naïve, and rooted in the stillness of home. As he continues toward its release, Axel remains focused on work that invites listeners to slow down, look within, and find clarity in the uncertainty.
