Few voices are as instantly recognisable as that of Andrea Bocelli, the Italian tenor who has done more than almost anyone to bring opera to a mainstream audience. He first found fame after winning the newcomers' section of the Sanremo Music Festival in 1994, and went on to cement his global reputation with the breakthrough album Romanza (1997), home to enduring favourites such as "Con te partirò" and its English reworking with Sarah Brightman, "Time to Say Goodbye".
One of the best-selling classical artists of all time, Bocelli has sold close to 90 million records and become a fixture on the world's biggest stages. He has performed under celebrated conductors including Lorin Maazel, Seiji Ozawa and Zubin Mehta, sung for popes and the British Royal Family, and appeared at global events from the Olympic Games to the FIFA World Cup, and in 2010 he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Warm, soaring and effortlessly emotive, his live performances remain a genuine bucket-list experience for music lovers of every kind.
