Field Music are an English art rock and indie pop band known for their intricate arrangements, clever songwriting, and genre-blending sound. Formed in Sunderland in 2004, the band is led by brothers Peter and David Brewis, who have crafted a distinctive style drawing from progressive rock, funk, chamber pop, and post-punk influences. Their music is often compared to the likes of XTC, Talking Heads, and Steely Dan, blending complex rhythms and lush harmonies with sharp, observational lyrics.
Their self-titled debut Field Music (2005) set the foundation for their experimental approach, but it was albums like Measure (2010) and Plumb (2012) that solidified their reputation as one of the UK's most innovative bands. Tracks like "Them That Do Nothing" and "The Noisy Days Are Over" showcase their knack for combining off-kilter melodies with tight, dynamic instrumentation. Over the years, Field Music have been frequent fixtures on the UK festival circuit, performing at Green Man, End of the Road, and Glastonbury, while also collaborating with artists such as Paul Smith (Maxïmo Park) and Slug.
