History & Culture of The Patti, Swansea
The Patti started life about 40 miles away. Around 1891, opera star Adelina Patti added a glass-roofed winter garden to Craig-y-Nos Castle, her home in the upper Swansea Valley. She left the pavilion to the people of Swansea, and in 1920 it was taken down and re-erected in Victoria Park, where it still stands. It’s now Grade II listed.
Over the following century it was a concert hall, a dance hall and a community space. After years of decline, a council-funded refurbishment was completed in 2009.
Today the Patti Pavilion hosts gigs, comedy and tribute nights by the seafront on Mumbles Road. Big Country, Reef, The Feeling, Hayseed Dixie and Goldie Looking Chain have all played there.
