History & Culture of The Grove, Newcastle

Located on St Michael's Road in Newcastle's east end, The Grove occupies a restored industrial warehouse whose exposed brickwork and original steel beams pay tribute to the building's industrial past.

The name runs deeper than it first appears: chosen as a reference to the Byker area, it shares its identity with Byker Grove — the BBC teen drama that launched Ant & Dec and became a defining piece of Newcastle's cultural history.

Today, it operates as a 350-capacity independent music venue, bar and community space, with a programme spanning live music, club nights and cultural events. A first-anniversary mural by local artists Mul and Mr Penfold reflects the venue's strong connection to the local community.
