History & Culture of St Marys Chambers, Rossendale

St Mary's Chambers has been part of the Rawtenstall skyline since 1856, when it was built as a Methodist Free Church on land given by the Whitehead Brothers on Haslingden Road. Built for £8,000, it was considered one of the finest examples of Corinthian-style architecture in Lancashire at the time.

Over the decades that followed, the building took on a life far beyond its original congregation. During the Second World War, it served as a local air raid assembly point, and for years afterwards it was a regular meeting place for Rawtenstall's old age pensioners' association, before eventually falling into disrepair.

The Chambers were given a new lease of life when local business B&E Boys restored the building, carefully preserving its original external features while converting the interior into a conference and banqueting suite. In 2016, the lease passed to local business owner Maria Teoli, who relaunched St Mary's Chambers as a venue for weddings, private parties, corporate events and celebrations of all kinds.

Today, that same restored Victorian building hosts a very different kind of event: a packed calendar of gigs, tribute nights and touring artists, with St Mary's Chambers now firmly established as one of East Lancashire's go-to venues for live music.
