About Unwound

Unwound is an influential American post-hardcore band from Tumwater, Washington. Known for their raw energy, experimental tendencies, and intricate song structures, the band became a cornerstone of the underground music scene, blending elements of noise rock, post-punk, and hardcore into their own distinct sound.


Their early releases, including Fake Train (1993) and New Plastic Ideas (1994), established Unwound as pioneers of the 1990s post-hardcore movement, drawing comparisons to bands like Fugazi and Sonic Youth while carving out a space of their own. Over time, their sound evolved into more atmospheric and expansive territory, culminating in their critically acclaimed final album, Leaves Turn Inside You (2001), a sprawling double LP that showcased their mastery of tension, melody, and dissonance.


Unwound's legacy endures through their influence on countless bands in the punk and indie scenes, and their 2023 reunion tour marked a long-awaited return for fans eager to experience their cathartic sound live once more.
