Formed in Cambridge in 2016 and now based in London, Ugly are a six-piece band who fold sacred choral harmony, sprawling post-rock and the warmth of '60s and '70s folk-rock into something genuinely their own. Rather than settling into any single genre, the sextet — Sam Goater, Harrison Jones, Harry Shapiro, Tom Lane, Jasmine Miller-Sauchella and Theo Guttenplan — write in the spaces between styles, letting all six voices shape every song.
Their EP Twice Around the Sun (2024) gathered the ambitious, often long-form tracks that made their name, from the choral swell of "Sha" to the restless art-rock of "The Wheel". Along the way they have toured the UK with Black Country, New Road and sold out headline shows across London, earning a reputation for live sets that are playful, surprising and quietly spellbinding. Expect harmonies that soar, arrangements that wander into unexpected places, and a band happy to follow their own instincts wherever they lead.
