About Toto

Few bands have left a mark on rock music quite like Toto. Formed in Los Angeles in 1977, the group built a reputation as consummate musicians, blending rock, pop and soul into a sound that has endured for close to half a century. Their breakthrough came with Toto IV (1982), which swept six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Rosanna”.

It’s the singles, though, that have carried Toto across the generations. “Africa” remains one of the most recognisable songs of its era, certified Diamond by the RIAA, while “Hold the Line” and “I’ll Be Over You” are radio staples to this day. Across a catalogue that runs from their 1978 debut through Hydra, Isolation and beyond — alongside the soundtrack to David Lynch’s Dune — Toto’s influence has only grown, with younger listeners discovering their timeless songbook anew.
