Giant - The Woodentops

A Rock and Roll band with an anti name, not designed for commercial success achieved main stream radio, main stream chart positions, alternative respect, fan love from bright sparks like David Bowie and made one of the continually mentioned best loved albums of 1986, a peak year in in the history of UK music history.

Its is the voices and words, the easy fall in of the beats and bass lines, the distinct guitar and the fun at the heart of the thing.  It is both serious and good humoured, original but not without hinted influences, all part of the colour and vibrancy that makes the energy encapsulated here on tape, infectious and memorable.

Giant included in its song list a strong list of club floor turntable hits, Give it time, Travelling man, Get it on, Everyday Living or the monster hit Why Why Why,. Remixes you would hear in Ibiza, Paris, New York, Milan, Los Angeles or London . The first single, Good Thing was one of those songs you would hear at anytime of the day on radio, taxicab, superstore, launderette or your own kitchen. It was the sound of that summer and still John Peel championed a supporter till the end.

So after a few shots at performing the whole album live, hearing entire audiences spontaneously singing chorus’s ,fixing the magic and relearning the original arrangements, much altered through time, The Woodentops will devote much of 2016 to performing this milestone album as complete and original running order on its 30 year anniversary.
