Tom Bailey is the lead vocalist of the new-wave band The Thompson Twins, who are widely regarded as one of the most iconic bands of the 1980s and provided the soundtrack to many peoples lives during that incredible era of music.

The Thompson Twins released five singles that all made it into the top ten UK charts: "Love On Your Side", "We Are Detective", "Hold Me Now ", "Doctor! Doctor!" and "You Take Me Up". Following the monumental success of the band, Bailey has made a significant name for himself as a solo artist, under the moniker The Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey, having released his debut solo album Science Fiction in 2018, to critical acclaim. 

Despite not being interested in science fiction, Bailey found the concept of using science to shine "new light on old problems" to be a fascinating topic, and found that the songs he had written all shared this theme. After writing the aptly titled Science Fiction he realized that it would make a perfect title for the album itself. The record is celebrated for the signature new-wave sound from The Thompson Twins, with Bailey's own pop-jazz twist.
