The Roots are a hip-hop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formed in 1987, the line up now includes Black Thought (rap, singing vocals), Questlove (drums, backing rap vocals, beatboxing), Kamal Gray (keys, backing rap vocals), Captain Kirk Douglas (guitars, singing vocals), Tuba Gooding, Jr. AKA Damon Bryson (sousaphone, tuba), James Poyser (keys), Ray Angry (keys), Mark Kelley (bass, synthesizer bass, moog), Ian Hendrickson-Smith (flutes, saxophones), Dave Guy (trumpet), Stro Elliot (beatbox, percussion, sampling, tambourine, Ableton, HandSonic, SPD-SX, finger drumming, keys) and Jeremy Ellis (beatbox, sampling). Their latest record ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin dropped in 2014.
