The Neighbourhood are an American alternative band from Newbury Park, California, whose sleek blend of moody indie rock, R&B and atmospheric pop has defined their distinctive sound since forming in 2011. Fronted by Jesse Rutherford with Jeremy Freedman, Zach Abels, Mikey Margott and Brandon Fried, the band first gained worldwide attention with their debut single Sweater Weather (2012) — a brooding yet infectious hit that topped charts and became a defining track of the 2010s. Their debut album I Love You. (2013) expanded that sound, pairing cinematic production with emotional lyricism and monochrome aesthetics that quickly became their trademark.
Evolving across releases such as Wiped Out! (2015), Hard to Imagine the Neighbourhood Ever Changing (2018) and Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones (2020), the band explored new sonic directions, weaving dream-pop textures and R&B grooves into their darkly polished style. Known for their cohesive visual world and introspective songwriting, The Neighbourhood have built a devoted global following, headlining festivals and influencing a generation of genre-blurring artists. Their music continues to navigate the tension between melancholy and allure — songs that shimmer with mood, emotion and modern cool.
