The Good The Bad And The Queen, Albert Hall, Manchester - 16th April 2019

Here is a band that know how to play both as individuals & as a collective. Great music combined with fantastic, meaningful lyrics, with a brilliant string quartet fiddling away behind it all.
Damon Albarn, an undeniable genius & legend, led the band, who are also legends, and the audience, superbly. This man not only knows how to play his instruments he also knows how to play the crowd & I mean that in a complimentary way.
For almost 2 hours The (very) Good, The (not at all) Bad & The Queen (God save her) entertained & enthralled a very enthusiastic crowd. I doubt anyone left the Albert Hall feeling anything but happy !!

The Good The Bad And The Queen, Foundry, Sheffield - 15th April 2019

Absolutely loved this performance. Wasn't really familiar with the music but enjoyed it immensely. Damon gave it his all whipping up the audience who lapped up his attention. Have seen him many times and he never disappoints, a seasoned and multi talented performer. Just sorry we had to leave a little early (avoiding crowds due to autism).
Thought the venue was good as it gave an intimate feel but need to be early to grab a decent spot although there was no pushing/shoving. Only small niggle was trying to negotiate through the masses to find the exit when needing to leave early. All in all great evening and will definitely revisit. Ps bonus that car parking is next door.

The Good The Bad And The Queen, Cardiff University Great Hall, Cardiff - 13th April 2019

One of the best gigs I've been to in recent years. Damon on top form as usual.

Following an eleven-year hiatus since their eponymous debut, the four musical storytellers are back with Merrie Land, which will be self-released on the newly created label Studio 13. Produced by Tony Visconti and The Good, The Bad & The Queen, Merrie Land contains 10 new songs - written during the current period in which the UK is preparing to leave the European Union - creating a reluctant good-bye letter, a series of observations and reflections on Britishness in 2018.

Merrie Land’s focus moves beyond GBQ’s London-themed first album to a wider land, with a beautiful and hopeful paean to the Britain of today, an inclusive Britain, currently in an Anglo-Saxostentialist crises at the end of a relationship, wondering what might be salvaged. Could there be a more perfect band - with their creative symbiosis of pasts and present and shared acclaimed music histories - to reflect on the anticipation, disorientation and confusion of current life.

They take the new material to U.E.A. at Norwich, Cardiff University Great Hall, Octagon Hall at Sheffield, Manchester Albert Hall, Olympia at Liverpool and London Palladium during April 2019.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen began life as the acclaimed 2007 album of the same name, a heartfelt tribute to London described by The Observer in a 5 star review as - “One of the most surprising and magical records for which Damon Albarn has ever been responsible”. The record traced a journey from the English music hall tradition to West Africa and Afrobeat, zigzagging through the West Indies and its reggae and dub, back to England and London's punk scene, all the while taking in a strand of British beat music from the '50s right through to Britpop. The result was a record specific to a place and mood but with a background that was geographically wide-ranging.

Now the four musical storytellers are back with a new studio album titled ‘Merrie Land’. Produced by Tony Visconti and The Good, The Bad & The Queen was completed in London and Wales this year, during the current ongoing period in which the UK is preparing to leave the European Union, ‘Merrie Land ’is a questioning good-bye letter, a series of observations and reflections on Britishness in 2018.
