Suffolk may be more associated with holidays by the sea and boat trips on the Broads, but for fans of contemporary music it’s also home to a ground-breaking band that dares to be different. The Darkness, first formed in 2000 and still going strong today, challenged pre-conceived notions of a more avant-garde style of music by introducing a seriously camp and flamboyant style fused with solid guitar riffs and take-no-prisoners performances. Couple this with frontman Justin Hawkins’ soaring vocal style and you have a genuinely unique sound - something of a rarity for a rock band these days.

Now both fans of The Darkness (of which there are many) and the curious who are only just being introduced to their individual style of music can grab The Darkness tickets for their forthcoming tour dates this year. At Gigantic we’ve managed to get a selection of tickets -but they won’t be here for long as The Darkness concert tickets have a tendency to sell out quickly.

For influence, think flamboyant 1970s rock, that includes sometimes truly gaudy stage outfits (should any man really wear gold sequinned onesies in public?), an exuberant performance style backed up solidly by accomplished musical and vocal skills. Initially, the music press lambasted the band, perhaps partly due to Justin Hawkins’ truly unique vocal style. But the breakthrough came with the unexpected success of their single ‘I believe in a thing called love’ from their album ‘Permission to Land’.

At this point both the press and audiences began to sit up and take notice, and The Darkness quickly proved that following a lesser-trodden musical path is sometimes a recipe for success. Since then the band has received award after award, including prestigious Ivor Novello Award in 2004 for Songwriters of the Year, and a clutch of Brit Awards, Kerrang gongs and other assorted accolades.

Today, The Darkness are powering on with their own special type of rock, and gathering up new fans in the process. This year sees a number of The Darkness tour dates, including the O2 Guildhall Southampton in November then Rock City at Nottingham and O2 Academy Birmingham during December, 2017.

If you’re quick you can pick up The Darkness tickets for these and any of their other eight concerts this year from Gigantic.
