About The Cinematic Orchestra

The Cinematic Orchestra are a British electronic music group formed in London in 1999 by musician, producer and composer Jason Swinscoe. Blending jazz, orchestral arrangements, downtempo electronica and hip-hop influences, they have developed a distinctive sound that bridges contemporary electronic music and cinematic composition. Signed to the influential Ninja Tune label, their debut album, Motion (1999), established their atmospheric, richly textured approach, combining live instrumentation, sampling and improvisational jazz.

Their subsequent albums, Every Day (2002) and Ma Fleur (2007), further defined their signature style, balancing intricate electronic production with soulful vocals and sweeping orchestral arrangements. Their acclaimed reworking of the soundtrack to the 1929 silent film Man with a Movie Camera showcased their ability to create immersive audiovisual experiences, while “To Build a Home”, featuring Patrick Watson, became one of their most recognised recordings, celebrated for its delicate piano and emotional crescendo.

Returning with To Believe in 2019, The Cinematic Orchestra continued to explore the relationship between electronic music, live performance and human emotion. Renowned for their evocative compositions and expansive soundscapes, they occupy a unique space between contemporary jazz, ambient music and film scoring, creating immersive musical journeys that are both intimate and cinematic.
