Sun Kil Moon, O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, London - 26th November 2017

To be honest, Mark Kozelek could have turned up and played Coldplay covers all night, it would have still been the best thing i'd ever witness. Following his music is a constant pleasure, as you find out a little more about him through every song he does. The prolific rate in which songs are churned out is phenomenal, and I'm still trying to get over the fact that I just witnessed arguably, the greatest songwriter of our generation. His wit and charisma, made it worth while the fact I'm now writing this, absolutely knackered at work. There are very few artists that can keep an audience entertained for over 2 hours, but I could have sat for even longer.

If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it! And also spend your days listening to the long long list of everything Mark has ever released, it's more than worth your time, and will beat any Netflix series.

Kozelek announced his arrival as a solo artist with the release of debut album Ghosts Of The Great Highway in 2003. Other titles include Tiny Cities, April, Admiral Fell Promises and Among The Leaves.

His sixth album Benji is recognised as a creative high in an impeccable back catalogue. It features contributions from the likes of Owen Ashworth, Jen Wood, Will Oldham, and Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley.

The sparse musical arrangements and haunting production only serve to heighten the album’s intimacy and ultimately render it a masterpiece of reflection and introspection, destined to be played on repeat in scores of late-night, tired, and lonely rooms. - Pretty Much Amazing

It was followed a year later by Universal Themes, released in 2015. It also received rave critical reviews.

He has started off 2017 with the release of the brand new record Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys Of Blood. The record explores Kozelek’s recent life experiences and spans over two hours creating a challenge for his listeners, but ultimately a rewarding experience which reveals his sheer commitment to his craft.
