Shack is one of Liverpool’s great cult bands, known for their heartfelt songwriting, rich melodies, and deep-rooted connection to their city’s musical heritage. Led by brothers Mick and John Head, the band emerged in the late 1980s with a sound that blended classic British songwriting with psychedelic textures and an undeniable sense of longing.
Following their debut Zilch (1988), Shack’s legacy was cemented with the now-legendary Waterpistol (1995), an album plagued by bad luck, including the loss of its master tapes in a studio fire. Despite these setbacks, the band built a devoted following, with later albums like H.M.S. Fable (1999) and ...The Corner of Miles and Gil (2006) further showcasing their poetic lyricism and lush arrangements.
Though never reaching the commercial heights of some of their contemporaries, Shack remains a cherished name in British music, with their influence spanning generations of songwriters. Mick Head, often hailed as one of the country’s finest unsung talents, continues to make music, keeping the spirit of Shack alive in the hearts of their loyal fans.
