Samaris are a triphop band from Reykjavík, Iceland. Blending the organic sounds of vocals and the clarinet with patient, almost laboured, electronic beats they produce a sound that is tense yet satisfying. Although there techniques may be cutting edge, they draw inspiration form the past with lyrics taken from Nineteenth Century Icelandic poems. Extremely well produced, even when live, their music may be brooding but still holds an eloquent beauty.

The band is an excellent trio consisting of vocalist Jófríður Ákadóttir, Þórður Kári Steinþórsson behind the laptop and clarinet player Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir.

The trio formed in January 2011 and met with immediate success when they won the Músíktilraunir competition that year with Steinþórsson winning the prize for Keyboard/Programming. They continued their hard work in their first year participating in the international Stage Europe Network event and self-released their first EP named Hljóma Þú.

The band recorded another self-released EP; Stofnar falla, in 2012 before being snatched up by One Little Indian Records.

To date the band have released two albums through Little Indian Records; their self-titled debut Samaris in 2013, Silkidrangar in 2014. Their latest release Silkidrangar Sessions is a companion piece to their last album and came out in 2015.
