The Sabres of Paradise was a British electronic music group formed in the early 1990s by producer and DJ Andrew Weatherall, alongside Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns. Known for their genre-blending approach, they combined dub, techno, ambient, and breakbeat to create atmospheric and experimental soundscapes. Their music was deeply influential in shaping the UK’s underground electronic scene during the decade.
The group released two critically acclaimed albums, Sabresonic (1993) and Haunted Dancehall (1994), with tracks like Smokebelch II becoming cult classics in electronic music. Their unique style made them key players in the early trip-hop and downtempo movements, with Weatherall’s production work extending to artists like Primal Scream. Although The Sabres of Paradise disbanded in 1995, their legacy endures through remixes, reissues, and their lasting impact on electronic music culture.
