Ruger, born Michael Adebayo Olayinka, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter whose distinctive blend of Afrobeats, dancehall, and Afro-pop has propelled him to international recognition. Known for his signature eye patch and bold, charismatic style, he first broke onto the scene in 2021 after signing with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a label affiliated with Mavin Records. His debut single, "One Shirt," featuring Rema and D’Prince, set the stage for his rapid rise, but it was his debut EP, Pandemic, and the smash hit "Bounce" that truly solidified his reputation as one of Afrobeats’ most exciting new voices.
Ruger continued his momentum with The Second Wave, an EP that delivered fan-favourite "Dior" and showcased his sharp lyricism and infectious melodies. In 2023, he released his first full-length album, Ru the World, a bold statement of his artistic evolution, blending energetic bangers with heartfelt storytelling. His dynamic live performances and ability to effortlessly fuse genres have earned him a dedicated global fanbase.
Now at the helm of his own label, Blown Boy Entertainment, Ruger is stepping into a new era of creative independence, continuing to push boundaries and cementing his place at the forefront of contemporary African music.
