About Rema

Rema, born Divine Ikubor in Benin City, Nigeria, is a prominent figure in the Afrobeats genre. He began his musical journey performing in churches alongside his collaborator Alpha P in 2019. His breakthrough came with a viral freestyle on Instagram to D'Prince's song "Gucci Gang," which led to a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. In 2019, he released his self-titled debut EP, Rema, featuring the hit single "Dumebi," which garnered significant attention and topped Apple Music's Nigerian charts.

In 2022, Rema released his debut album, Rave & Roses, featuring collaborations with artists like 6lack, Chris Brown, AJ Tracey, and Yseult. The album charted 10 songs on the US Billboard Afrobeats Chart in its debut week. The single "Calm Down" achieved international recognition, reaching No.3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after a remix with Selena Gomez, breaking multiple records. Rema received various awards, including the MTV Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats Video and the Billboard Music Award for Top Afrobeats Song. In 2023, he released Rave & Roses Ultra, which became the first African album to cross two billion streams on Spotify. In 2024, he released his second studio album, HEIS, featuring collaborations with Nigerian artists ODUMODUBLVCK and Shallipopi.

Rema's innovative fusion of Afrobeats with Arabian and Indian influences, which he terms "Afrorave," has resonated globally, earning him a dedicated fanbase known as "Ravers." His unique sound and dynamic performances continue to elevate the global profile of Afrobeats music.
