Pom Pom Squad is the brainchild of Mia Berrin, a queer, multi-racial artist who channels her experiences of displacement into evocative music. Growing up as a Black, Puerto Rican woman in predominantly white spaces, Berrin found solace in music and film, drawing inspiration from the vibrant aesthetics of Heathers, the haunting tones of The Virgin Suicides, and the surrealism of David Lynch. Emerging from New York's DIY scene as a grunge act, Pom Pom Squad has blossomed into a captivating blend of modern pop, orchestral arrangements, and deeply personal songwriting.
The project gained widespread acclaim with the release of Death of a Cheerleader (2021), showcasing Berrin’s unique vision and cinematic influences. Known for electric live performances, Pom Pom Squad has toured with Soccer Mommy and supported Mitski, earning a reputation as a compelling force on stage. UK audiences have embraced their shows at venues and festivals, where the band’s raw energy and heartfelt artistry create an unforgettable connection with fans.
