Pete Rock is a Bronx-born DJ, producer and hip-hop icon whose influence on the genre spans more than three decades. Emerging from the East Coast scene in the late ’80s, he became a defining force in the golden era of hip-hop through his mastery of sampling — lifting grooves and melodies from obscure R&B, funk and jazz records and reshaping them into timeless beats using the legendary E-mu SP-1200.
Renowned for his rich, soulful production and impeccable ear for rhythm, Pete Rock’s solo catalogue includes the acclaimed albums Soul Survivor (1998), Soul Survivor II (2004) and NY’s Finest (2008). His collaborations with artists such as CL Smooth, Nas and The Notorious B.I.G. cemented his status as one of the most respected producers in the game. With Soul Survivor III soon to be released, Pete Rock continues to evolve while honouring the roots of hip-hop — a true New York legend keeping the spirit of the culture alive.
