Rapper and producer Oddisee is the very definition of independence, organising all his own promotion, tours whilst also producing his own top calibre music.

Amir Mohamed el Khalifa was born in Washington DC. Growing up he was influenced by the soul played to him by his father and the rap music loved by his friends. He showed early promise as an MC Producer working in the analog basement of his neighbour Garry Shider, member of the legendary Parliament Funkadelic.
He became a part of Low Budget Crew which also included fellow D.C. area MC and producers Kenn Starr, Cy Young, and Kev Brown. He was also instrumental in the formation of Hip Hop group The Diamond District which saw him unite with Uptown XO and yU The 78er. Amir turned down a place at the Art Institute of Philadelphia to study the visual arts to pursue his career in music instead.

Success came as Amir began to strike out on his own. His 2010 release Travelling Man saw him sign to Mello Music Group and the 2011 Rock Creek Park mixtape was named Stereogum’s mixtape of the week.

The 2012 album People Hear What They See “was a culmination of the duality of his life experiences, set to a backdrop of intricate drums, lush instrumentation, and soul-stirring harmonies.”

2013 saw a flurry of activity revealing his prolific talent. He released instrumental album The Beauty In All and the second album Tangible Dream all in one year.

His latest album The Good Fight was released 2015.
