Raised by his grandmother in Nigeria, Obongjayar moved to the UK at the age of 17, initially adopting an American accent in his music before embracing his Nigerian roots. His unique sound combines powerful political and spiritual themes, delivered through a voice that seamlessly transitions between rap, singing, and spoken word.
Obongjayar first gained attention by sharing music on SoundCloud, leading to collaborations with artists like Danny Brown and Little Simz. His 2022 debut album Some Nights I Dream of Doors received widespread critical acclaim and earned a nomination for the Ivor Novello Award for Best Album. In 2023, his collaboration with Fred Again on the single "Adore U" went platinum in both Australia and the UK.
