Messa is an Italian metal band formed in 2014 in Cittadella, Veneto. Often described as practitioners of “scarlet doom,” Messa blend doom metal with elements of jazz, blues, dark ambient, and Mediterranean atmospheres, creating a sound that is both heavy and hauntingly cinematic.
The band consists of vocalist Sara Bianchin, guitarist Alberto Piccolo, bassist Marco Zanin, and drummer Rocco Toaldo. Their music is marked by Bianchin’s expressive, dynamic voice, shifting from smoky restraint to soaring intensity, set against expansive guitar textures and rhythm sections that move fluidly between crushing weight and minimalist subtlety.
Messa’s debut album, Belfry (2016), introduced their distinctive fusion of doom and occult-tinged atmospheres. They gained broader international acclaim with Feast for Water, which expanded their palette with jazz-inflected passages and Eastern-inspired motifs. Their third album, Close, further refined their sound, incorporating post-punk and gothic influences while maintaining their signature emotional depth.
