Matt Maltese is a British-Canadian singer, songwriter and producer whose music melds indie pop, chamber pop and melancholy lyricism. Born on 6 October 1995 in Reading, England, to Canadian parents, he began writing songs in his teens and gradually refined a voice that’s emotionally rich, wry and deeply literate. His early releases — like the single “Even If It’s a Lie” and EP In a New Bed — built buzz around a songwriter unafraid to explore heartbreak, irony and existential longing with both humour and precision.
His debut album Bad Contestant (2018) introduced him as a bold new presence, followed by Krystal (2020), where he layered introspective tales over lo-fi textures. He gained further acclaim with Good Morning It’s Now Tomorrow (2021), a record that feels both wide as a sunrise and intimate as a whisper, and then Driving Just to Drive (2023), showing a readiness to lean into movement, tension and emotional restlessness. In 2025 he released Hers, his first fully self-produced album, heralded as his most ambitious work yet. Throughout, singles like “As the World Caves In” and “Shoe” have become touchpoints for his fans — songs that resonate not just for their melodies but for their emotional honesty.
