About M Ward

M Ward is an extraordinary blues and folk musician. Highly talented and well respected, his live shows are a joy to behold.

Matthew Stephen Ward began playing guitar in his teens, teaching himself using a Beatles songbook. He has subsequently released eight albums and worked with a wide variety of excellent musicians.

Not only a successful musician in his own right, he is a member of the supergroup Monsters Of Folk which also comprises of Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes plus Jim Jones from My Morning Jacket. Their self-titled album hit #3 in the American indie charts.

He is also a member of She & Him, an indie folk duo that consists of him playing guitar with actress Zooey Deschanel who joins him playing piano and ukulele as well as providing the vocals.

Ward released his eight studio album More Rain in April of this year. Work began on the record in 2012 after he began experimenting with his vocals, attempting to layer them to produce somewhat of a doo-wop sound. The direction changed radically after working with such luminaries as Neko Case, k.d. lang and REM’s Peter Buck, all of whom contributed to the record.

I think one of the biggest mysteries of America right now is this: How are we able to process unending bad news on Page One and then go about our lives the way the style section portrays us? ” says Ward. “There must be a place in our brains that allows us to take a bird’s-eye view of humanity, and I think music is good at helping people-myself included-go to that place.

Get your M Ward tickets through Gigantic when they go on sale Friday 3rd of June at 09:00.
